Dr. Barbara Landau, President of Cooperative Solutions, is a Psychologist, Lawyer, Mediator & Trainer.
In 2017, Barbara was honoured the OAFM President’s Award of Excellence for screening for power imbalances and DV in family mediation. Dr. Landau was also bestowed with the Leading Women Building Communities Award, in 2016 from Premier Kathleen Wynne, Invited by Premier Wynne as a delegate on the Israel Trade Mission and hosted a meeting of Jewish and Palestinian peace educators in Israel and the Justice/Net Patron Council Award in 2016 for her leadership role in access to justice and dispute resolution in Canada.
In 2012 Dr. Landau was given the Dr. Vara P. Singh Award by the Women’s Intercutural Network for outstanding community service. In 2011 she was named the Mc Gowan Award recipient by the ADR Institute of Canada. In 2010, she was appointed to the Attorney General’s Expert Advisory Panel on the 4 Pillars of Family Law Reform in Ontario. In 2004, Dr. Landau received the Long Term Achievement Award (FAMMA) from Family Mediation Canada. In 2003, she received the “Distinguished Mediator Award” from the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR). In 2002, The “Award For Excellence in Dispute Resolution” was given to her by the Ontario Bar Association (OBA). The lifetime title of “Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association”, was awarded for outstanding contribution to clinical psychology.
Barbara is a Chartered Mediator, a Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator and a Family Arbitrator. She has successfully resolved family law and estate disputes as a mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator. In addition she has succeeded in resolving workplace disputes and as a Roster member of the OMMP-Toronto, she mediated commercial, wrongful dismissal, medical malpractice and personal injury matters.
She has offered conflict resolution and mediation workshops in several countries, as well as family arbitration and collaborative practice courses, to lawyers, mental health professionals, teachers, clergy, students, human resources specialists, and others. Most of these courses are offered through the University of Waterloo, Conrad Grebel University College.

Barbara has published numerous articles on mediation and collaborative law. Her newest book entitled “The Family Mediation, Collaborative Practice and Family Arbitration Handbook”, 5th Edition was released in the Fall of 2009, co-authored with Lorne Wolfson and Niki Landau. She also co-authored “From Conflict to Creativity” in 2001 with Sy Landau and Daryl Landau.
Barbara participated in ”compassionate listening”, missions to Israel and Palestine as a step toward peace and reconciliation. She is Co-Chair of the Canadian Association of Jews and Muslims, that builds interfaith understanding.
July, 2012: Barbara Landau awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her exceptional service to the community.
This new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. On the medal itself, the obverse depicts a crowned image of the Sovereign, in whose name the medal is bestowed. The reverse marks the sixtieth, or diamond, anniversary of the accession to the Throne of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The anniversary is expressed by the central diamond shape, by the background composed of a pattern of diamonds, and by the two dates. The Royal Cypher consists of the Royal Crown above the letters EIIR, meaning Elizabeth II Regina, the latter word meaning Queen in Latin. The maple leaves refer to Canada, while the motto VIVAT REGINA declares “Long live The Queen!”.
